I had mine serviced in October. I mentioned the creaking and that it might be the top struts. They said they were very worn and needed replacing but as the new part was due out before the end of the year they'd wait and do it then. I called the dealership having not heard back and apparently the new part has been pushed back till May which doesn't inspire any confidence. They told me to speak to Volvo and perhaps they'd agree to change them now and again when the new part came out. I'm still waiting to hear back from Volvo. The creaking has actually been ok since, perhaps they oiled them and it has helped things but concerned about the possible implications of driving round with knackered front struts for 6+ months?

They seem to be spending a long time implementing the new parts.

Leeds volvo dealer said today that they have not received any bulletins from volvo about the availability of the re-designed part yet.

I have the same issue with my 69 plate T4. I have been told that the modified part will be in the country from 16th March but this is the fourth date given so far. Faint noise noticed at 19000 miles but dealer couldn’t hear it, this was 3 weeks before warranty ran out. A busy life meant that I didn’t go back to the dealer until next service 12 month later (30,000 miles) at which point the noise was very very obvious and the car was wobbling at over 55mph!! I did raise a complaint with Volvo UK but they simply referred me to the 3 year warranty (now out)
In my opinion, if Volvo have made a modified part to rectify this problem, then they are very aware that there a numerous XC40’s with the problem and regardless of age they should replace them! Oh yes, forgot to say that one side was replaced
whilst in warranty before I reported the knocking noise afterwards.
I have booked the vehicle in for the work and await a call when the parts are in. I’ve been quoted £325 fitted per side if Volvo don’t contribute!

What about new cars, do they have the modified part or have they got the original? If original, I would be peed off buying new, with sub standard part, and why are Volvo producing cars with such.

Mine has been in to Listers this morning and they have agreed that it has the same issue. As expected the part isn't available yet, they were told by Volvo that it will be later this year before it is.

I have been advised by Vertu Volvo in Exeter that the modified part will now not be available until Autumn this year, late September apparently. In my opinion this is outrageous and unacceptable, my vehicle was diagnosed in September
last year so it will be a full year before it can be fixed with a reliable part. In the meantime mine is horrible to drive, it wobbles at speeds over 60mph and clanks at low speed. Volvo seem uninterested in providing an interim solution and they know that these are not isolated cases. I have a T4 Inscription Pro on a 69 plate and just 30k miles on the clock.

I have the exact same issue!
22 plate XC40 Inscription, issue was apparent in Septermber 23 and was diagnosed in October 23, been waiting ever since.
I was told by my local dealership, Riverside Volvo Hull, that it would be covered under warranty and a recall would be issued.
I was fist told by the end of the year, then I was told March 24, and now they aren't really saying when just that it has been delayed.

My vehicle is actually a PCH so I have gone to VCFSUK through their formal complaints process.

I ended up speaking to 3 different Volvo agents, all who promised to look into my issue and get back to me but never did. So i went to the complaints department and outlined how poor the service was. Hopeful of a good resolution, I heard nothing for weeks until an email popped into my inbox saying you need to resolve it with the dealership (the same dealership who told me to go to Volvo directly). Not even a courtesy call to apologise for the terrible service. They did at least give me a £100 voucher to spend.
MOT due up for renewal this week so went to a different dealership (that actually picks up the phone) and explained the issue. They were pleasant but same nonsense from them 'part due out in July/August' so we'll book you in when it's here. I'm not holding my breath. Meanwhile they couldn't update the car software at the last service and want me to pay £180 to diagnose the issue before even deciding if it's something that's covered under warranty, yeah no thanks. Ironic to think part of the reason I went for the XC40 was the warranty and the level of service :|

Contacted the dealers yesterday and this is their response:

"The anchorage section is now showing available however the top mount bearing section is showing me that it is still on a back order. It's showing they should be released from Sweden on the 21/10/2024 so just over another week or so to go. When they leave Sweden it take approx 10 working days to get to us so hopefully, all being well with their time scales, we should be able to have some with us on or around the 4th November".

So fingers crossed.
