I didn’t know I could manually change gear by putting it in B and flicking left or right for up down , although I don’t find flicking left or right intuitive so I shall be staying in auto, only had it 15 months and 30k miles

Mine only go down as far as directing air at my chest i.e. horizontally.
Mine are the same as Jamie’s. Yes, they go up and down, but in the furthest down position the air flow is horizontal. In the furthest up position, the air goes completely over my head (and I’m a six footer).

Sooo much better when they had paddles.

I’m not a big fan of the gear change on current models. Previous generations of Volvo automatics had a more conventional gear lever that you moved to the required position (D, P , N etc.). To change to a manual sequential gear change, you moved the lever to the left then you could push it backward and forward to change gear. Very intuitive and easy to use. After at least 25 years of driving automatics with that configuration, it took me quite a while to get used to the new gear change.

I haven’t used the manual change on this car yet, but I have accidentally gone into it on several occasions. I’m not sure whether that’s down to my incompetence, or poor design.

Yes, because it's a flick switch it's possible sometimes to flick it 3 times and it goes into manual. Yes the down for manual, left right to change confuses me, as the misses VW DSG it's more conventional, sideways for manual, front back for up down. Always have to re learn swopping between the cars.

Yes the manual gear-change to the left and right is so naff, the DSG and the likes is how it should be done - probably designed by the guy who decided to loose the paddle-gearshift system too, someone perhaps who only uses a peddle-bike because in my opinion no car driver enthusiast would have signed them off???

I assume the paddles were removed to prepare us for the electric vegan versions. Plastic steering wheels and hidden tailpipes already here. Leather seats to be discontinued by 2025 I believe.

From MY23 you no longer have to pull it back or push it forward twice (like a double mouse click) to shift between D, M and R. You just pull/push it and hold it a fraction of a second. Apparently so many people disliked the double motion that they changed it to something more familiar ;) Personally I have no problem with L=down, R=up when in manual, it's not an issue for me, it's easy. Each to their own, I suppose. I only ever use manual mode to get a bit of engine braking when going downhill - no point otherwise, the DCT is a mind-reader...

Had it a week now, delivered 2 weeks before schedule. Here's what it looks like by the way, photos don't quite do the paint justice (it's the new Fjord Blue colour), seen physically it has a real depth to it. It's the B4 Plus Bright.

Done 900 km so far and have got 6.1 l per 100 km in total, which is 46 UK mpg. Didn't expect anything near that, so I'm well pleased - the mild hybrid actually seems to do its job. I did go very easy for the first 500 km, so I suspect the long-term economy will be slightly worse, but not dramatically.

In a couple of weeks I'll be putting it through its paces on its first longer road trip, we're going to the Slovenian and Austrian Alps. Can't wait 8-) Greetings from the Czech Republic, have a nice summer

Nous sommes en France, en vacance.

Found out that dials auto change to km, tho Nav distances have to be changed in car system units.

Also Mrs Sensus can't pronounce "toll booth".

Best she can manage is "tll bth" 🤦🏻‍♂️

Car otherwise behaved impeccably on a 650 mile run.

Hi, congratulations on the car - especially receiving it two weeks early, that seems to be the opposite of everyone else's experience. I've ordered an XC40 Recharge single motor, also in Fjörd Blue, which should have been with me around now, but it's been delayed until mid-October/November... Enjoy!
