I bought a 74 plate (10miles) pre registered Volvo XC40 from stoneacre in Chesterfield in Dec2024, on collection (drive away) it was very noticeable when braking a loud noise (like driving over a rumble strip for 2-3 seconds) was emitted from the engine bay, the noise is emitted when braking and is random, its happened 4 times within a journey of 90miles and the loudness is varying (from very loud to noticeable) the vehicle is a XC40 2L petrol B3 model. The question is
Is this intermittent noise standard with model?
Does anyone have the same model without a random noise when braking. Does anyone own a Volvo XC40 B3 2lt petrol with the same problem?
The car is currently with Stoneacre Chesterfield, but I sense that they will try and pass the noise off as part of the regeneration process, hence I would be curious to find out if all XC40 B3 have the same noise related problem when braking.

I have a 73 plate MY24 XC40 B3 and no random noises on braking as far as I am aware.

My 73 plate MY24 B3 used to make quite a few strange noises when regenerative braking kicked in, but after a few system updates is now generally very quiet - but there are still the odd squawks. The dealer didn’t seem concerned… If you search this forum, there are multiple reports of these types of noises - but not so much recently - perhaps software updates have improved matters somewhat?
I've the same experience with my 2 weeks old Xc40 B3. It happens when slowing down from about 50mph to take an exit for example. I am told it takes some time for the brake pads to setlle in. If it continues after about 600 miles or a month of use, I'll take it for a revision.

Exactly the same issue from new and even now with 7775 miles travelled.

Sounds like the "whooping" noise that most of us with mild-hybrids have experienced for some time. As said it has reduced considerably due to software updates but I do get the odd ones now and again.
I'm surprised that you guys with nearly new cars are getting loud/frequent occurrences though as you should be running a newer version of the software.

Not sure what the whooping sound is you refer to. I guess that's another type of issue that I have not yet experienced. The braking issue feels like ABS is kicking in (maybe it does, but that would be very weird at those brake levels and I haven't seen any ABS warning) and it sounds like I run over these rippled white lines that warn you when you're crossing them.
I really hope it's not happening again since I kind of lose confidence in the braking system.

I think it's the same thing as what other contributors have described as "whooping". I've done nearly 50,000 km in my B4, all over Europe on all types of roads and in even the most extreme conditions, and during all that time it's made that noise maybe 9, 10 times, always unexpectedly, and always with zero adverse consequences whatsoever for braking or for anything else. The car has been absolutely bulletproof. So my advice would be: I really wouldn't worry about it. It's all good - just relax and enjoy your car!RMBcn wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 11:07 pm The braking issue feels like ABS is kicking in (maybe it does, but that would be very weird at those brake levels and I haven't seen any ABS warning) and it sounds like I run over these rippled white lines that warn you when you're crossing them.
