Has anyone done this successfully? Looks easy in the manual and on You Tube but totally failed to remove the back cover to get at the battery (front cover came off easily). Nearest Volvo dealer is 60 miles away!

Follow the instructions in the online manual and it's very quick and simple. Else buy your new battery from Halfords or Timpsons and they will fit it for you.

I did mine on my previous car a couple of times and it was a right pain in the neck! Infact my wife took it off me the first time and did it due to my frustration and the second time I just gave it to her to do! I'm pretty handy but it's just a stupid fiddly design unless it's changed with the new cars?

By comparison, my motorcycle one was a breeze, but keyless ignition on a bike, why!

At least I no longer walk away from my bike leaving the ignition key in the lock! :D

Thanks for the encouragement - I tried at least half a dozen times and totally failed to remove the back cover depsite following the video but then doing exactly the same the cover suddenly popped off. Battery replaced. Can only think the catch must have been gummed up.

With mine it seemed to be that despite applying considerable pressure to the "catch" it wasn't releasing. If they spent 5p more I'm sure that they could come up with a better and less fiddly design.

I think i was lucky in the one I changed, when I took off the 'front' I was presented with the battery compartment (which I assumed should have been under the 'back') so it appeared that they had been put on the wrong way round, made it easy to change it anyway
