I just installed a sheet of batting of 43”x40” in the boot up to the rear seats (mine has no spare tyre) and is really effective, i mean the rear side is totally muted.

MY24 23w51 XC40 B3P Plus, minus Blis, in Vapour Grey metallic, Blond Leather interior and Panoramic sunroof, Tinted back glass, H/K sound system, 19” Rims.
With previous cars I've noticed that the noise increased if I took the rear parcel shelf out. Not so much if any with the Volvo and your test reinforces this as it seems most noise is being transmitted through the seats.

A few hours later: I think is worth trying, the back of the car is dead silent and the damper material is very light and cheap.
I can only hear the engine now and i’m seriously thinking of trying the hood insulator who is missing since MY23 upwards.

I went on a ring road today, the first time my XC40 has been driven above 40mph in the week I've owned it and wow what a racket! How can such an expensive car have such poor soundproofing? Is it the Continental tyres which I must say look rather cheap & nasty or is it mainly due to Volvo skimping on soundproofing the cabin?

Ring roads are a known issue with the XC40. Much quieter on Roman Roads which are obviously straighter.
If I were you I'd Google webuyanycar.com.

IMO the Continentals are expensive terrible tyres. Mine came with Pirelli P Zero PZ4s on 20" rims and the car is a very quiet place and handling is OK for what it is. Can be fun when I'm on my own.

If you call the relatively small Volvo XC40 an expensive car, what is an XC90 then ? Or any car from a premium car maker ?Jaycee750 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 7:04 pm I went on a ring road today, the first time my XC40 has been driven above 40mph in the week I've owned it and wow what a racket! £40k to me is an expensive car. I never said that it was THE most expensive car. It's way noisier than my old £10k cheaper car if that helps.Moss wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 10:04 pmIf you call the relatively small Volvo XC40 an expensive car, what is an XC90 then ? Well, I guess you’ve made a serious mistake buying a Volvo XC40 : the car is clearly not the right choice for you. The good news is that you will have zero trouble selling the car for a good price.Jaycee750 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 10:15 pm£40k to me is an expensive car.
