2 litre mild hybrid. Xc40 is a beast. Unless your mileage is high I would go for the 2L

That’s what I’m swaying towards , the plug in hybrids seem to be similar price at the moment but not sure if they are better long term ?

I have a 2litre mild hybrid it’s lovely to drive and has the get up and go when you need it, thoroughly recommend.

MY20 T4-T5 with 2.0 liter petrol engine and 8 speed TC auto gearbox, Volvo’s classic drivetrain used on all its models from 2015 until 2020 could be the safest choice for avoiding future expensive out of warranty repairs. I would stay away from T2-T3, the 1.5 liter 3 cylinder petrol engine introduced in 2019 and discontinued 3 years later. Manual gearbox (clutch) prone to problems and underpowered engine returns poor mileage.

MY20-21 mild-hybrid B4-B5 uses the same drivetrain as T4-T5 plus the electric system. There is more complexity with this drivetrain, a new starter, energy recuperation and 48V electric circuit, but returns very good mileage.

MY20-21 plug-in hybrid T4-T5 Recharge is a complex setup, using the 1.5 liter 3 cylinder petrol engine coupled with a 7 speed DC auto gearbox with electric motor attached to it. The pros and cons for this drivetrain can be found by doing a search on this forum.

Can't go wrong following what eugen61 says in his post.
I've had two 2lt Mild Hybrids one AWD MY21 (16,000miles) and now FWD MY24 (6,000). Both have been excellent.
