And it's a bit more than just a DC/DC converter, it checks and modifies stuff on both sides. Glad I don't have to pay at £800!

We had a similar situation last night with the failure to start. Collecting people from Bristol airport late at night. Got into car - I had locked car with Care Key and my wife had opened with regular key. Car behaved exactly as described by “Cornishman”.
We all got out of car, wife locked with regular key. She walked away with key 100 metres or so. I opened with Care key and all functioned properly. Has anyone experienced similar “key conflict” when both keys are being used throughout the day ?

Well done to Lookers Colchester, the "MVCM" module has been replaced a day before their estimate! Pick up tomorrow a.m. as I couldn't get there tonight...

Lucky, they were a bloody nightmare with our XC40! Didn't stop us buying our XC60 from them though.

I’ve been waiting since 09.00 this morning for Enterprise to contact me about a replacement vehicle following recovery of my car via Volvo Assist. My calls have been deflected by saying that they’re having problems with their phone lines. Utterly useless and a strongly worded complaint to Enterprise via Volvo will follow.

My original issue was my 3 week old B3
‘s engine cutting out whilst travelling at 30mph in heavy traffic. Vehicle wouldn’t restart and much panic ensued for myself and elderly passengers. Anyone else had an issue with complete loss of power whilst driving ?
B4 AWB with less than 400 miles on clock just cut out completely at 70mph on dual carriageway. Very frightening. Car off road for 10 days. Volvo assist and Enterprise were dreadful. We were dumped by recovery driver with all our holiday baggage at a pub and waited two and a half hours for Volvo Assist to send a taxi to take us to nearest Enterprise - an hour away in the opposite direction from home. Car broke down at 3pm and we picked up hire car at 9.30pm with a three hour drive home. At 9am the next morning we received a call from the manager at Enterprise saying he needed us to take the car back to them that day. We're stuck with Volvo now for 3 years but never again.

Just had my car returned from dealer with the following explanation :

“Vehicle came in as a recovery as vehicle stalled at 30 mph
When recovered the vehicle would start and was driving. We carried out a fault code check - no faults were stored in the system.
Carried out an inspection on the vehicle when starting could hear a noise on one occasion and as the investigation into the engine auxiliary belt, we could see the auxiliary belt had snapped and wrapped around the alternator.
We removed the auxiliary belt, inspected the pulleys, and found there was a defect to the belt tensioner, this in turn had caused consequential damage to the auxiliary belt. A new tensioner and auxiliary belt have been replaced and the vehicle has had an extensive road test and was found to be performing as should with no further issues. “

I don’t know enough about cars to question the above - but spoke to a highly qualified independent mechanic who was gobsmacked, especially given the car has done less than 300 miles from new !

Heard about this happening before, and think also on a T3. I do struggle with the level of technology on stuff today - what ever happened to keeping things simple? - cars that suddenly stop and no fault to be found - have said this before and been ridiculed for saying it - but are cars better for all the tec gizmos internet connections apps etc - well when a car stops and nout can be found then OK again and technicians left without a clue??? - at least you could trust a Morris miner to get you from A-B, and if something did go wrong a local garage would get you running again within minutes with a spare part they just happen to have lying around.

You're absolutely spot on. When I started driving in 1968 I carried a set of points and condenser and a few tools and I was never left stranded. Biggest problem I had was a blown headgasket on a Ford zodiac whilst on holiday in Devon, luckily I had my mechanic tool box with me and changed the gasket at the B&B we were staying at. Try doing that on todays cars.... No chance.

My first car was a 1974 MkI Escort. Yes it was simple but it's 48bhp 1098cc engine never varied from 29mpg... My B4 190 bhp1998cc engine produces 37 mpg... You don't get to that level of economy without technology!
