Broken Tailgate Handle

The same happened to me this week, went to Volvo and the immediately knew what I was explaining and are replacing them as and when free of charge

Volvo have adapted screw fixing so they shouldn’t snap

My tailgate handle broke two weeks ago rang the garage they told me to come over that day and they would replace it, garage keeping them in stock as it’s a known fault
XC40 R Design T4 Fusion Red, winter pack, electric tailgate,Sunroof, reversing camera, mud flaps ,boot liner, fitted rubber mats, and spare wheel

Mine broke/came loose on one side around 3 weeks ago. Booked in to be replaced on Saturday morning.

Happened to mine last week after 18 months of use. Replacement has been re-designed so it will hopefully stay put now.

Had first service last week. Was advised that tail gate lock(?) was changed as a recall item. Same issue?

Had the same problem after one year but it was covered under warranty. Looks like a faulty design in the plastic piece not being adequately reinforced where the screws attach. Not sure if the replacement part will do the same in a year or so, or if it has been strengthened somehow.

Took my T4 in for them to look at a problem I was having with the stop start, while it was in there they also replaced parts of the tail gate handle fixing as a Volvo update apparently.

I am taking my XC40 to the garage tomorrow apparently there is now a modification to fit a new handle I did have a new unmodied one fitted last September but unfortunately the fitter left the old screws rattling around in the tailgate so hopefully they will remove them this time !
