XC40 won't start from the button, but will start from the app

Out of the blue car won't start. I hit the brake, and the start button, and nothing happens. It looks like it can't initialize properly? BUT, I can start it remotely from the app. It still does not allow me to drive it though. No alarms or errors anywhere I can see. What could be the issue? Worked just fine an hour ago.

Basically, lock the car and leave for a while then try again?

Thanks. The symptoms look similar. But it was 3 hours already. In an attempt to reset the electronics I disconnected the negative cable from the battery and let it sit for 30 minutes. No luck.

Yesterday my key fob gave up, I kept it in my bag during a long walk and it was very cold outside. I managed to open the car and start the engine from the app on my phone, but could not drive away. Your issue might be depleted key fob battery.

Both keys open the doors just fine. Both keys can't start the car, including when on that special place in the armrest. It does not look like it can't see the key, it attempts to start - the dash plays the starting animation.

Honestly, it looks like the car (computer) thinks that it is already running. When I try to start it and fail, and then open a door - it complains that I opened the door while the ignition is active.

What’s your car’s software, Android Auromotive AAOS or Sensus? If not sure, what’s your car’s model year? Is your engine mild-hybrid?

If it's an MHEV, could be the serpentine belt has broken. Apparently this is a common reason for cars not starting according to the Volvo technician that attended me. He also said the official Volvo update was it's the belts that were redesigned and not the tensioner. He said had seen a lot of failed belts but never a seized tensioner.

It's 2020 D3, so Sensus. It got towed to the dealership but they're off until Tuesday.
