Couldn't really comment on the display as I hadn't done the update and still haven't (no longer get the install message anyway) and apart from when using the sat nav I've always pressed the Home button to have the tiled display.

I'm on 3.2.5 which was the dealer update when serviced and out of interest today I thought I'd see what mine displays on start up. First start was the tiled screen which it would have been turned off from. Short drive with the radio on and on restart it continued to show the Radio screen. Another drive and I tried the sat nav (without a route entered) and on restart it showed the sat nav again. So basically mine doesn't default to the tiled display each time I restart. Don't know about if leaving it for longer and it going into sleep mode though.

Display says my software is up to date which clearly it isn't but I'm probably not going to bother Searching for an update.

That's very interesting. Mine used to default to the tiled home screen and according to Volvo it was supposed to. I'm not sure why we're all experiencing different behaviour.

I think the terminology used in the owners manual is being misinterpreted.

My XC40 has of late during normal use always restarted with the display showing the last app used on the screen with versions 3.x.x from memory. So I have always made a conscious effort to try to return it to the "home screen". Except where I have used the Sat Nav to get somewhere and upon restart will be using the Sat Nav to get me home. But in regular use the current firmware basically hibernates and powers up from where it was last left.

Prior to this and we're going back nearly 12 months now, I don't think the earlier versions 2.x.x of Android Automotive had the ability to "hibernate to disk" so you would always get the Home Screen upon power up.

The "Home View" is the first view shown after the infotainment is started after a restart/reboot and I would imagine after "deep sleep" when the car/infotainment shuts down and no longer communicates with the Volvo Cars App to preserve battery after a lack of use, as in these situations (for want of a better example) you have lost the hibernate functionality just like a Windows PC.
