Does anyone else find the foot gesture opening so temperamental that it isn't worth using?

I gave it a few tries in the supermarket carpark last night with no success. I then got my key fob out to use the button but it was dark and I couldn't see which button to press so I ended up opening the tailgate manually using the latch.

One fairly quick kick, forward and backward dead centre, does it every time for me. Don't waggle your foot around.

I have found that it works best under the second V of the Volvo badge. Agreed, it can be tricky but equally, locking or unlocking by touching a door handle won't always work either.

Make sure you’re not standing too close to the tailgate, sensors won’t allow it to open if you’re in the way.

All the above, it seems to be with most cars kick then take a step back...

The tailgate button is the one closest to the ring, unlock in the middle, lock nearest the end. Once you remember this you never need to take them out your pocket.

I get the odd occasion when it doesn't open, but as said it's probably because I'm too close. Much more reliable than my previous car when I often gave up and used the button, often when I had both hands full and really needed it!

Mine is very useful and after the service department gave me the correct opening instructions (foot forward and back, once, right in the middle of the number plate area) it works perfectly every time.

Yeah, forgot to add that it's nearly had me when opening when I was connecting my trailer electrics up which amused a neighbour!

I now have the tailgate open to give me more time to react.

No, it works fine every time for us. You need a short, sharp kick, straight forwards and back. Don't wave your foot left to right. The following video helped us:
Thanks
