First post, Hi.
I've just had the Volvo dashcam installed in our new car. They also installed in the wrong place, but in my case too far from the mirror housing and in my passenger's eyeline. The installation instructions are available online and clearly show the correct location. I complained and spoke with one of the technicians who readily agreed his colleague had fitted it incorrectly. Refit has now been done to my satisfaction. I would be concerned that if there is insufficient space to insert a SD card then you'll have difficulty unmounting the camera as I believe it needs to slide towards the mirror. I would suggest you get it refitted in the correct location.

UPDATE: Visited dealership and a tech person managed to insert the SD card with a sharpened pencil. Quite happy for them to do it, but I wasn't keen to try anything adventurous in case of mishaps.

I bought one of these a few months ago, and very impressed - super easy to fit, no cables to worry about, and seems to work well.

Good Afternoon Quietman,

May I ask, did you go ahead and purchase a FitcamX for your new Volvo XC40 ???... I have also been looking at the FitcamX Dash Cams for my wifes new XC40 and I wondered whether you now had any experience of the FitcamX...

The installation videos look reasonably straightforward ? and I do like the fact, that it is not necessary to run the lengthy cable around the door pillar to either cigarette socket or the fuseboard....

Thank you for any assistance that you maybe able to offer

Regards, Paul Hackett

I fitted my FitcamX. It's very easy as long as you have either long thin fingers, or long nosed pliers to pull the various cables out of the casing. And, as you say, no cables running anywhere. Took about 10 to 15 mins to fit. Worth watching the video on youtube before doing.
I received another offer from them today:
10% off entire order🎆
CODE: SFESFE
Seems to be for Chinese New Year, and doesn't (as far as I could tell) say how long this code is valid.

Good Afternoon archie159,

I have watched a couple of installation videos and one in particular appeared to show that it was not necessary to remove the complete plastic fasciae / cover, only a small section immediately behind the rear view mirror...

I'm hoping that if this is the case and other than being a little fiddly as you suggest, it does not require the whole fasciae to be removed... ??? I don't suppose you have a photo of the FitcamX installed do you ???

Many thanks..

I suspect fitting this yourself will invalidate your warranty in several areas. Is it worth it?

I might be able to do a photo over the weekend, but to answer your question, it's just a small section you remove, as you say, behind the mirror. It clips off and on easily enough, and they give you a tool to help with that. The cover is designed to be removed, so you aren't doing anything damaging to the car or fascia. The camera then just clips back into the space left by the cover you removed - it is the same size obviously, with clips in the right place. Likewise, the cables you unplug and replug are all removable ones - you are just inserting the camera into the power supply, and then passing it on to the mirror. I cannot for one minute see how that would impact your warranty.
I'm not sure where you are finding the videos, but I just used the one on the fitcamx instructions they sent (there's a QR code in the instructions, which take you to it - I cannot recall if the video is on their website, or youtube).

Any direct connection to the electrical system can be deemed to invalidate the warranty unless installed by a Volvo approved technician

Good Morning archie159,

Thank you very much for your reply... I have seen one video (on Youtube) where the whole assembly of the facia was removed and one where, as you have described only the small section is removed, which in my mind is better...

I will query the aspect of the warranty being invalidated, as suggested by JFDIT with my local Volvo Dealership...

Once again, thank you very much for your help and assistance,
