xc40.jpeg

So after 3 years and 4 months and 67,000 miles, my XC40 T5 Inscription Pro PHEV company car was loaded onto a truck last night and headed off to auction.

In that time the car has been bullet proof. Outside of normal servicing the only thing that needed to be fixed were the front seatbelts because the springs that retract the belt when removed were a little weak. All under warranty of course.

The car has never let me down and has been a pleasure to drive up and down the motorways. Quiet, comfortable, composed and perhaps a touch boring on the back roads but as a day to day workhorse, perfect.

The service experience has been mixed. Marshals in Grantham did the first service and were great. Stoneacre in Lincoln did the next and were a total bunch of incompetent cowboys. Riverside Volvo did the last and again, great.

Over the full term, the car has returned an average of 40.4mpg. Note I do a lot of long distance so a PHEV was never going to be the ideal solution but I had to consider that company car tax.

So onto the replacement

I had to go all electric this time. The company is paying for it so they make the rules.

Whilst the all electric XC40 was tempting (as was the new EX30), long lead times and poor economy put me off. The BMW ticked all the boxes for what I need and having spent 24 hours with the car now, I am not regretting my decision however would happily recommend the Volvo if anybody asked.

So a quick thank. you for answering all my silly questions over the last three years and who knows, when I come to change again, Volvo will certainly be up there so I may return :)

Hope you have as much trouble free motoring from your new workhorse. I've had similar experiences, with Marshall and Riverside being first class, but Stoneacre with a non Volvo were not a good experience.

All the best with the new motor, hope it’s as good as the XC40 has been for you.
Interesting comments about Stoneacre (with which I agree as my experience is the same).
One last thing before you go…I saw the pictures of the Volvo over on the VOC forums and although I know Lincolnshire quite well, I cannot place the location, I thought somewhere near to Boston??

Best wishes with the beemer

Thanks for taking the time to give an end of ownership view, far too much traffic on internet forums about faults and not the overall experience over an extended period

I always try to find an interesting backdrop for first day photos (sad I know) but I used to live in Spalding so this place was just down the road near Whaplode St. Catherine

I have used it more than once :)

As an alternative, I used the national sub station out on Bicker Fen. Here https://maps.app.goo.gl/qFGeW7MJzpghFq298

Again an interesting backdrop

I have now moved however so have spent the last few days trying to find locations for the new car :)

So far I have found the disused Cottam Power Station as above (can you see the irony there for an EV) and the old Doncaster Airport which had a lovely surprise in the background :)
