Would You Buy Another

only 6 months and 5k miles with my C40 , and its a 4yr co. lease deal. So far no issues other than the odd infotainment software glitch. I like the fact that google maps updates almost instantly roads change (loads of new road building on some of my routes and the road changes weekly as a result !). Media integration is a bit lacking (usb stick music only via a third party app), and should be an easy fix for Volvo. PZero tyres are overkill for the car, great in warm weather but even with limited driving in low temperatures they just can't cope and offer no assurance - why safety conscious Volvo couldnt fit something like Goodyear all seasons is strange (although most cars sold in the UK come with 'summer tyres' and often something way beyond what the car needs.

Build quality is good, i'd go as far as to say excellent for those buying at the lower end of the XC40 price list; at £54k for my C40 its good enough but there are a few plastics that could be a little better (door bins for instance). I came from a fautless , heavily loaded Porsche Macan so some things are a step down. Would i buy another ? Well in 4 years time i'll be approaching/at retirement and if prices rise like they have been doing then £60k for something similar is too much. But hey, who knows what the score will be with ICE/hybrid vehicles by then

Good question.

Yes.

Last year at the end of my cars third year, I explored a new one. Exact specification but with the addition of a tow bar and sunroof.

However, I was disappointed to discover that the new XC40s no longer has four wheel drive? A mistake by Volvo.

Then I looked at an XC60, but with the additional extras to make it equivalent spec to my XC40, but it was way out of budget.

I decided to stick with my XC40 as it still has less than 30,000 miles. I added a tow-bar and bike rack.

Still delighted with the car.

Another who needs AWD. We tow a caravan and always use certified sites which generally means grass fields. Several times have only been able to get on off site due to AWD. I also am reluctant to switch to the AAOS from all the bad things I'm hearing on here. So NO, this may be my first and last Volvo.

If I towed a caravan I'd definitely want AWD. Even on the road there are occasions when the front wheels can be scrabbling for grip when towing.

Can't understand it really, they are just handing sales to the competition.

Much as I like the XC40 I won’t be getting another when it’s time to change as I won’t be able to get one the same spec as my Inscription. I’m retired and only do around 5,000 miles a year now. I keep my cars until 5 years old so still have over two years to decide what to get. I’ve heard good reports about Mazda CX5, Kia Sportage and Audi Q3 so maybe will have a look at those nearer the time.

I thought the same about my R-Design but managed to pretty much get the spec I wanted in the end.

In 2 years time there should be other alternatives around as well.

After considering all factors, I’ve decided to keep my MY20 T4 for at least another three years. I’m very happy with the car, it was built before the Covid disruptions and has only 40k miles. Some of the known MY20 issues, like support battery and tailgate struts, were resolved under warranty, and I’ve had no other problems so far.

My concerns about AAOS and the mild-hybrid drivetrain haven’t yet been addressed to a level that inspires confidence in ordering a new XC40 right now. In addition, with new car prices skyrocketing, I highly doubt that future service costs on my current car will ever come close to the additional expense of purchasing a new one.

A new generation XC40 is expected in 2027 and I anticipate it will incorporate engineering advancements from the new generation 2025 XC90 and 2026 XC60. I’ll wait to see how Volvo evolves in terms of software reliability and drivetrain architecture. Hopefully, the next car I order will be another Volvo.

No. I love the looks but there are too many dealbreakers for me. I find the driver's seat base rock hard, the carpets are the cheapest & naffest I have ever seen (I have model cars with better carpets), cheap creaky plastics, woeful MPG and the worst cruise control of any car I've ever owned. It doesn't stick to the speed you've set! It can go 4mph over and that's useless when you've set it especially to get through some speed cameras without stress.
