My XC40's 3rd birthday is coming up soon. Volvo has kindly reminded me that the standard manufacturer's warranty will expire on that day, and have offered to extend for another year for £407.

In the 3 years of ownership I have had 0 (zero) issues with my car that required a warranty repair. What are the chances that stuff will start to go in the 4th year?

As experienced XC40 owners, do you believe £407 is worth the peace of mind?
hello skimm
could you just confirm to me that the extended warramty you have took out is with carcareplan. the reason being as a coincidence i am in the same position as you and recieved a call from them a few days ago and they qouted me £517.00. that is a difference of over £100.00 compared to you.just wondering whether i need to make a phone call.dont like getting ripped off.
thanks

Skimm’s quote is one year old, January 7 2023. Given the inflation rate and car servicing price increases in 2023, I’m not surprised you’re getting today a £100 higher quote.

I pulled a Volvo quote back in August and it was £413, could it be different models of car, mine being the B4 AWD.

I have this same issue on my right tailgate strut. My car has the electronic tailgate.

Volvo wanting £160 diagnosis fee and no indication of a gesture of goodwill.

I have found replacement strut online but my question is will my car recognise the new strut if I replace myself? I know the onboard computer does have software updates and I didn't know if a new strut would work after a straight forward replacement.

At the end of the day it comes down to your personal approach to risk.

If you are only doing low mileage then perhaps bank the £400 each year to pay for a £1k repair bill later.

You could check other third party 'warranty' options but i doubt they'll be hugely cheaper than the Volvo option.

Also check the small print of the Volvo one, it might tie you in to main dealer servicing (and paying double for a service compared to a Volvo specialist)
