Key fob "washed"

The key fob was washed in the washing machine having been left in my pocket. I have dried it out for three weeks and have done all the recommended solutions. However, after replacing the battery the key works perfectly. left overnight it refuses to work at all. I suspect there is a short somewhere and it is draining the battery. So my guess is I will need a new key. I still have the other key which works fine.

Cold wash at 40 degrees for delicates might have helped, but yeah, guess the key has had its day. I do recall my previous XC40 had a specific key you could take in water, for example when at the beach and you wanted to go swimming, but appear to have stopped supplying these now.

Mine worked after washing but the battery ran out every two weeks so I replaced it. Don’t forget to take out the flat emergency key as my dealer did when setting up to the car….
