Personally I think you have been massively ‘ short changed’. That said, if you are satisfied ( not happy) with the resolution, then it does not matter what the rest of us think. Sounds like your dealer has done its best in finding a replacement vehicle, albeit ( in my opinion)l inferior to your original, by some margin. Volvo themselves have been appalling in the way they have handled the whole situation, and treated you, By accepting a replacement vehicle, not sure how this affects your rights in seeking further recompense, but I would pursue every avenue available, to get the monies you have lost on this sorry state of affairs.

Thanks once again for your support.

After 6 weeks of full-on 24/7 involvement on our part, we are now feeling a small sense of relief that it is almost all over, and we can enjoy driving again.

Even the dealership were astonished that we stuck with Volvo in the end, but given your comments, we have one last shot at Volvo/Volvo Finance for the monies we are due, but do think that there is enough here to bring the whole matter to the attention of those at the very top in Volvo.

You've hit on all the key points.

We are seriously thinking about passing all this on to the top of the chain so that vital lessons can be learned by all parties.
And the DVSA.

What I can't understand is why the failure of such a safety critical component isn't logged in the system to be picked up by a diagnostic check?

As I keep on banging about, cars are getting far too complicated for their own good and ours! Most accidents are due to driver error but it seems that the cars themselves are increasingly having the potential to contribute to them!

You have identified the key issue.

Seems to us that if there is any fault, especially a critical one, within the system, the diagnostics should find it immediately.

That whole system seems incredibly flawed, and surely a serious safety concern.
