Just completed a 140 mile trip to the North York Moors for a week and got a "Low Coolant" warning message. Had hoped it was a software glitch but regrettably it has lost about a pint. I'm unsure exactly when it was last "full" so waiting for Roadside Assistance to have a look.

First call to Volvo Assist was 14:20. Now, after much chasing, expected 21:15. Not impressed.

As Gripross says that is very poor service.

As a comparison, yesterday morning my son had a train to catch, having stayed at our house overnight. As his car was on the pavement behind ours I was going to take his but the doors wouldn't unlock. Fortunately I could just get my car out.

I managed to open the door when I got back but the fob wasn't recognised and it wouldn't start and I suspected a flat battery as had happened when he first got the car two years ago. So my son contacted Mazda Breakdown Assistance whilst on the train. I had to go into town and was back in just over an hour and when I got back the guy was just leaving! Of course the car had opened and started Ok - he said it sometimes happens with the fob. Attendance first time was also pretty quick and in both cases it was a proper Mazda guy. Been very impressed with their performance.

21:45. Recovery guy just left, no obvious sign of leak. Volvo senior guy has offered Volvo Technician on Monday, they only work Monday to Friday, to check the car over. They will either fix it or take it to nearest Volvo Dealership for investigation and supply me with a courtesy car for the duration and deliver the car back to me here or at home.

I think thats the very least you can expect...especially when we live in an age where lots of companies operate a 24 hour coverage/backup...with the price of modern cars its about time the car industry standardised this service too then maybe they could have got to you a lot quicker. Don't Volvo realise that things like this make us all question our loyalty to the Volvo Brand when we come to changing our vehicles.

Agreed. I just hope the leak is identified and it doesn't turn into a "The Computer Says No"...

Glad they eventually got to you but they certainly came up short and as Gripross says doesn't ingratiate them as regards sticking with the brand or not.

Apart from the warning it doesn't sound as though it went into limp mode. I had a VW Passat and whilst travelling at 70 mph on the M69 I got a low coolant warning and the car went into limp mode which was a bit frightening. When I was able to stop safely I saw that the level was just below minimum. What a stupid and dangerous activation, warning yes, but limp mode!

Topped up with the prescribed coolant and all well for the remainder of the car's ownership.
