Did you ask the garage to investigate the issue or did they notice without being prompted?

I would be interested to know why they think this is happening.

When mine failed without any warning not many miles after my first service I asked the repairing dealer why this was happening. He gave me the impression that they did not really know. I think you have been lucky you got a warning before failure.

This happened to my wife yesterday, our 5-week old car just stopped on a busy A-road. Luckily a passing ambulance stopped to provide blue light protection until the police were able to attend. Volvo Assisstance collected the car after about 90 minutes. Dealer reported this was the issue. From the way that the service representative spoke, it would seem that this is a known fault which really should have a recall to prevent this kind of problem from ever happening, it could have been so much worse!

Especially as Volvo have built their reputation on safety and still plug it.

When collecting my car the dealer advised that 2 had been in previous week and one had a shredded belt. The tensioner is now an modified part and belts are are on back order so would appear to be an "issue"

I had the bonnet up the other day and had a look around the engine. Belt and tensioner looks a bit of a pig of a job.

As they have modified the part Volvo know there is a design flaw/problem and should issue a recall.

So my belt tensioner is on its way out and Volvo have identified it - however the part is on back order… perhaps showing how many are failing…

Been waiting 3 weeks now with no eta!
