I have an XC40 T5 hybrid. If I look at the petrol range and add the electric miles at the start and finish of a journey and then review how many physical miles Ive done there is a massive difference. My standard work round trip is 35 miles but my range change will show I went 90 miles. My average MPG 50mpg.
Anyone else share their MPG?
I asked the garage and they had no idea other than switch the factory reset button?
Cheers
Average MPG
The Electric range is so variable depending on the outside temprature. I have a regular 28mile round trip (mix of Motorway and A roads) and in the summer It switches over to petrol with about 4 or 5 miles to go which based to the 24m range unless on Pure is great. In the winter it's probably closer to 15-18 miles before it swicthes over. So I don't tend to pay a great deal of attention anymore to the electric range I just make sure there's Dinosaur juice in the tank as well to cover me.
My wife does about 16 to 17 miles per day Monday to Friday, this is generally done on one charge, sometimes has a top up at lunch.
We did a decent run a couple of weekends back at 130 miles each way. On the way there with a full battery to start I think we got mid 40s then on the way back with a depleted battery we got 39mpg at night in the rain so lights wipers heated seats and cabin heat all on ( not sure how much difference that makes)
Overall I think that's pretty decent. On short 30 to 60 mile runs then it shows 50+.
It's not the best of any world, it has a pretty small battery range BUT for our usage it is perfect during the week the engine never starts but we can still set off up to Scotland without needing to plan charges and such.
According to the app the average MPG over 24300 is 53.8.

That worrks out about the same as me, I've done 9000 miles since purchase and put in 161 Gallons giving me an average 55mpg.AndyN wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 8:54 pm It's not the best of any world, it has a pretty small battery range BUT for our usage it is perfect during the week the engine never starts but we can still set off up to Scotland without needing to plan charges and such.

The thing that still surprises me is how quiet the petrol engine is (OK not when you are revving it hard). I had a regular T3 before this and that engine was way noisier even at low speed it made some unpleasant rattles.
So a lot of people look at this in the wrong way.
A hybrid is not an electric car until the battery is flat then a petrol one afterwards. The motor and the engine are designed to work together all the time in order to keep emissions low.
So a petrol engine will emit the most when pulling away from a standing start. You will often see that the car initially pulls just on the motor to get it rolling before the engine kicks in. This has a huge impact on the emissions. It is because of this, working out MPG numbers and range is really quite hard and isn't a case of adding one number to another.
Likewise if you fail to input your destination into the satnav, the battery will get used up almost straight away and be gone in less than 30 miles. Enter your destination and you may find you can do a 200 mile journey and still have 2% battery left at the end. BTW note I say emissions ad not economy. As with al cars sold today, the manufacturers don't care about the economy of the vehicle, just the emissions

The satnav works to an extent at eeking out the battery charge but I have now taken to using the battery for the parts of a journey at lower speeds and saving it on the open road sections. I haven't got definitive figures yet but for my type of journeys it's looking better than leaving the car to its own devices.
