Hi, A better title for the post would be Start/Stop SUPPORT BATTERY replacement because as Snow man says, it is only used to power the auxillary electrics during start/stop. The purpose is to avoid the effects of the 12V main battery voltage dipping which will happen on the restart. The main battery does the actual starting and stopping.
As question from John, - I didn't snip any terminals, I just cut back the corrugated sleeve by about 2 inches and re-taped the downward facing open end.
The wire still seems well protected and the location appears to be well protected from the weather in the front wing.
The reason that the terminal will not go back in the designed orientation is due to the position of the anti-rotation tag (see attached sketch).
The anti rotation tag requires a battery terminal width of 13mm or less but Yuasa has a width of 17mm in that orientation.
Yuasa has 13mm in the other orientation and so the connector will fit if it is turned by 90 degrees.
The other option that I considered was to take a pair of pliers and bend flat or remove the anti-rotation tag.
If that is done the the connections will fit as designed and the corrugated sleeve won't need to be cut back.
I think that would work too but I didn't want to start messing with the wire termination.
Start Stop Battery Replacement
Oh yep can see that know, great explanation and sketches too, and again v-well done to tackle the job - what is so odd is that the live positive terminal wire was sleeved in black and not clearly in red, don't know how they got that through legislation, especially for the US market, and clearly wrong to do so!!
No I wasn't otherwise I wouldn't have said that! The heading misled me and the fact myself and others have them on our motorbikes for starting, well, that's my excuse! One of my bikes is 1200cc which is bigger than some cars!
The assumption does seem daft though now!

Probably not relevant for this application but you can get that battery with a far higher CCA, I moved away from Yuasa for my bike as they'd only last a year or 2 max.ChrisLF wrote: ↑Sat Jan 28, 2023 1:11 pmYes, same here.stu22 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 28, 2023 8:51 amSame battery as my motorbike takes!jonathan66 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 9:03 pm Thanks guys,
The only point I missed is the replacement battery code which is YUASA YTS12-BS per photo attached.
Using as a stop/start battery on a car, no wonder they fail! Are they really man enough?
Yes I thought that so why I replied, think it also fits my Tiger 800 ?,had a GS 1200 for 6 years that certainly needed a good whack of volts to make it rock.ChrisLF wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 1:02 pmNo I wasn't otherwise I wouldn't have said that! Hi, I got mine late 2019 and it is MY 2020 early.
My wheel arch liner is identical to yours.
I only removed the screws on the front half of the wheelarch cover, leaving the very top 2 fixings in place.
The cover is flexible and the front of the cover will bend towards the wheel hub allowing an access gap to be created.
I didn't feel there was any risk of the wheelarch liner breaking when I had it bent to create the access gap.
This said it was quite tricky working through the access gap.
I am certain that it will be easier if you take off all the screws as you have done, but then you have more screws to undo.
Jonathan.

OK thanks. Never thought of doing that. I thought mine may have been different to yours and that you had a separate front panel. I haven't replaced my battery but it was good to get at it and check the voltage, which was 10.6v. That probably explains why I keep getting the error. I used a CTEK charger on it and the error has gone for now so I'll keep an eye on the error and if it comes back I'll change it now I know how to get at it.
You don’t need to charge the support battery directly, it will charge when the main battery is charged.Bav wrote: ↑Sat Feb 11, 2023 3:34 pm OK thanks. Never thought of doing that. My stop/start (which I believe is required for the stop/start to work) only works for a few urban journeys after a trickle charge with my CTEK charger, been like that for the last 3 years. I charge using the earthing point centre rear of the engine compartment and the positive terminal of the main battery. It does the job but I guess replacing the battery might fix it for a while longer…
XC40 | First Edition | 2.0 D4 AWD | Bursting Blue | 19" wheels | Ordered 11/03/18 | Delivered 19th October 2018.
I had this start-stop battery replaced at the 3rd service just before the warranty expired. It regretfully became an argument with volvo, but after persisting they replaced it. A shame it was like that. However, I ordered the next one, due april 23
